Catarafting

Catarafting with the Mammoth

The Mammoth takes paddle cat boating to a whole new level. We’ve taken what we’ve learned from rafting in 30 + years and transferred it to catarafting,  a boat that rockets high over waves and, with a front cross piece, resurfaces quickly after charging through holes. The Mammoth is a fun ride for high adventure paddle teams! The Mammoth comes standard with 2 thwarts. At 4,23 mt long, this boat can take a 6 person crew plus the guide on a wild ride.

What makes the AIRE Mammoth Catarafting experience special?

  • More sporty than a regular raft, faster, turns better, makes your catarafting experience a blast
  • Superman Mesh: The mesh floor in the Mammoth won’t hold water. Let the waves crash in, they’ll just drain right through the floor.
  • Built-in Foot Cups: Incorporated built-in foot cups to keep you and your crew in the boat.

The Soča, the most beautiful river in Europe, its emerald waters and the exciting rapids and the fantastic landscapes that you can admire during the quieter sections with a view on the massif of Kanin and other peaks which surround the valley. This make the whole rafting descent in this beautiful pristine environment one of the most coveted in the world .

Depending on the itineraries, the water levels and the seasons, it is suitable for those who love adventure and adrenaline, for nature lovers and for families with children. There is nothing better than a nice catarafting ride with your best friends, just for fun or as an alternative holiday but also to celebrate a birthday or a bachelorette/bachelor party in a unique way.

Alpin Action has been operating in the valley since 1992 and boasts standards of experience, equipment and safety at the highest levels. Our guides are all professionals, selected among the best in the world through strict & thorough tests.

The equipment used for rafting is CE approved and of the highest quality. Equipment is always replaced at the first signs of wear while the inflatable catarafts are changed every one to two years. Finding everything always in perfect condition means fun and safety at the top.

Our head office is located in Trnovo ob Soči, a small village surrounded by nature where peace still reigns, halfway between Kobarid and Bovec, in the middle of all the most beautiful itineraries , right at the end of the Classic descent. This means more time for rafting and less time spent in transfers, considering that once the descent is over, in a few minutes you can get back to your car.

Alpin Action is one of the best establish companies in the valley with a long tradition of excellence in service and professionalism. And whilst we offer all riversport activities to a very high standard, we are also well known for introducing new and exciting ways to enjoy the Soča Valley.

A cafe with services, a minimarket and free private parking for our guests complete the offer.

Among the several offers, choose Alpin Action, choose safety!

Do you need previous whitewater experience?
One of the great things about the Soča River is that there is no experience necessary! There will be a trained guide in each cataraft.

Is there an age limit to cataraft on the Soča River?
Yes, you must be at least 16 years of age.

How long is the whitewater catarafting trip?
Approximately 1 ½ hours is the time you will spend on the water. Total time with us includes ½ an hour before the trip for check-in and about a 5 minute bus ride to the river put-in, the catarafting time of about 1 ½ hours and a few minutes bus ride back to our center. This should all take around 2 ½ hours.

What should I bring and wear?
Bring a bathing suit a towel, and a plastic bag for wet clothes.

What happens if it rains?
You are going to get wet anyway so you’ll never know the difference! In the outdoor adventure business, we run our trips RAIN OR SHINE. Whitewater rafting is one of those sports where you are going to be wet from about the time you get on the river until the time you get off, but you’ll be having so much fun you probably won’t even notice. We do have splash jackets available for cool, rainy days.

When is the best time to go catarafting?
The Soča River is open from 15 of March to 31 of October.

Is whitewater catarafting safe?
The Alpin Action staff will do everything possible to provide you with a trouble-free river experience. The safety of our guests is the foremost concern of our staff. All participants are required to sign a waiver of liability/assumption of risk document. All participants will be provided with a lifejacket and helmet, and a safety briefing will be given before the trip. We want everyone to be comfortable and to have a safe, fun experience.

Will there be photos taken?
Upon request photos are taken and are available for you to view and buy when you get back to our center after your trip.

What time should I arrive for my trip?
Our check-in time is 30 minutes before trip time. It usually takes around 20 to 30 minutes to issue the equipment.

How will we be seated in the rafts?
We have up to 6 man rafts and we fill our catarafts as needed.
